Overview

Located in the community of Westport, Eddie White Beach - also known as Eddie White Beach at Westport Headlands - is a beautiful beach with grey sand and offshore rock formations. This beach is situated below an oceanfront blufftop nine-acre park known as Westport Headlands Park. A rocky arch is present near the southern part of the beach. 

Amenities

Eddie White Beach does not have lifeguards or any other amenities, so plan accordingly. Dogs without a leash are allowed on Eddie White Beach. 

Activities

Eddie White Beach offers many fun activities including beachcombing, sunbathing, wildlife watching, boating, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and picnicking. The water near the beach is generally unsafe for aquatic recreational activities including swimming and surfing as the water here has extremely strong currents and dangerous waves. However, despite the dangerous water conditions, kayakers, canoers, and boaters occasionally go into the water near this beach. Depending on the time of the year, you can see many kinds of animals in the water near this beach including seals and migrating whales. You can also catch many kinds of fish in the water near Eddie White Beach including cabezon, lingcod, and surfperch. However, if you are planning to fish in the water near this beach, please make sure that you follow the local fishing regulations. The blufftop Westport Headlands Park above the beach has picnic areas, which offer an amazing oceanfront picnicking experience. In addition, this park also offers excellent Instagram-worthy views of the Pacific Ocean.

Parking

Getting to Eddie White Beach is easy - Westport Headlands Park is located near 37002 Omega Drive, where street parking is also available. A wooden stairway is present in this park which leads to Eddie White Beach. It is important to note that the beach and the park above it are open from sunrise to sunset.

Fun Fact

As an interesting fact, the beach and the area around it was once used as a landing spot during the late 19th and the early 20th centuries by ships engaged in ferrying timber to San Francisco and other important commercial destinations

Attractions

There are many attractions near Eddie White Beach within a 25-minute drive. Pacific Star Winery offers interesting and memorable wine tasting sessions. In addition, the winery also offers Instagram-worthy views of the Mendocino County coastline and the Pacific Ocean. The winery is also a great spot to watch migrating grey whales usually between December and April. The Guest House Museum was built in the 19th century and currently serves as the headquarters of Fort Bragg - Mendocino Coast Historical Society. The museum has interesting exhibits on the history of the city of Fort Bragg and Mendocino County. If you are looking for another attraction near Eddie White Beach, Larry Spring Museum of Common Sense Physics is dedicated to the work of Larry Spring, who was a resident of the town of Fort Bragg who developed his own amateur understanding of scientific phenomena. Larry demonstrated his experiments using commonly available materials, and constructed many erratic and interesting apparatus, models, and inventions displaying a combination of outsider art and science.

If you get hungry, there are many great restaurants near Eddie White Beach within a 30-minute drive. Silver’s at the Wharf has a dining area that offers fantastic views of the Noyo River. In addition, the restaurant also serves amazing seafood and steaks. Mayan Fusion Restaurant offers fantastic Mexican cuisine with culinary influences from the Yucatan peninsula. If you are looking for another good and affordable restaurant near Eddie White Beach, the modestly priced Asian Buffet offers many amazing Asian Dishes including chow mein, fried rice, egg rolls, and orange chicken.

If you are looking for a hotel near Eddie White Beach, there are many great nearby options. The 4-Star Inn at Newport Ranch offers breathtaking views of the Mendocino County shoreline. In addition, the hotel offers many amenities including complimentary breakfast and evening snacks, access to spa services, a sauna, and a hot tub.  A more affordable hotel is the Howard Creek Ranch Inn Bed & Breakfast which offers many amenities including complimentary breakfast, a hot tub, and a sauna. In addition, hiking trails are also available which offer a fun hiking session around the bed-and-breakfast’s 60-acre property. If you are looking for another good and affordable hotel near Eddie White Beach, the modestly priced Westport Inn is located conveniently close to some of the major landmarks in Westport and offers complimentary breakfast along with morning coffee and tea.
