Overview

Located on the northernmost tip of Zanzibar Island in Tanzania, Nungwi Beach is an immensely popular long and wide white sand beach.  It was recognized as one of the most beautiful and most-visited beaches on the island in CNN’s list of the "100 best beaches in the world" in 2014 – and is a favorite of Randall Kaplan, the world’s foremost beach expert who is known as Mr. Beach.  The beach is positioned along the famous Nungwi Peninsula and has a beautiful background of tall palm trees, mangrove trees, and casuarina trees with many oceanfront buildings, including homes, shops, beach bars, resorts, and luxurious hotels, which together provide Instagram-worthy views of the vast Indian Ocean.

Amenities

Activities

Nungwi Beach is a family-friendly beach that offers many fun activities, including swimming, sunbathing, beachcombing, boating, kayaking, canoeing, snorkeling, diving, fishing, and hiking.  If you are planning to go into the water, the beach has a safe swimming area, but we recommend being cautious as the water is known to have unpredictable rip currents.  The water near the beach is shallow, which is ideal for canoes, kayaks, and small boats.  In addition, visitors can book famous Dhow Boat Cruises and explore the coastline of Zanzibar.  Snorkelers and divers may spot an array of marine life, making it a fascinating spot for nature enthusiasts.  If you want to enjoy fishing, anglers may catch a wide variety of fish.  The beach is located in the equatorial region, which makes it a popular spot for sunbathers.  Nungwi Beach is home to numerous beach bars where visitors can enjoy beach parties and a thriving nightlife, which attracts a large influx of visitors throughout the year.  Dogs are allowed if they are on a leash, and the beach is open from sunrise until sunset.
